Mystical Portrait of Melissa

August 4th, 2010

**  ”Daughter of Light”  **

~~ Melissa requested to have herself drawn as a mystical goddess in this wondrous scene.  She described to me all the symbols she wanted to have in the picture ~~ She is a wife, honoring her husband who is Muslim, and from Africa ~ the shape of  Africa is in the closest wave washing upon the shore, and the Islamic symbol is the moon in the nighttime sky.  She is a mother of two sons, both Pisces ~ hence the symbol on her gown at navel.  Love and vision mean all things to her, so you see she carries them at the palms of her hands.  Light and Love as expressed and manifested on our Earth, in both natural land and seascapes and man’s bustling cities, are important to her, as you see.   Neither ascending, or descending, with pink quartz crystal at her heart, and a black amethyst crystal hanging upon her ankle, she is stable, constant, and transmuting  as a loving, caring, and all seeing goddess of Light and Love, in the likeness of Nukvah, Nephthyss, and other daughter goddesses. May we all in Being, be aware of our divinity.   ~Namaste ~

Mirror in the Sky – A lyric rewrite for New, Empowered life-script)

May 23rd, 2010

Good morning friends.  This week I was suddenly inspired to write these lyrics for a song, in keeping with the melody from Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide”.  It is a rewrite of the original lyrics with many changes, which, you will see, has a much more positive thread throughout its verses and chorus.  Having been inspired to do this by a wonderful talk given by Rev. Lee McNeil Nash, senior minister of the Riverside Community Center for Spiritual Living here in California, I began with a personal purpose in rewriting this – to rewrite my life script, and affirm my perfect soulmate and I in communion, as a mirror of each other in perfect reflection of Our divine, higher selves, in harmony with New Thought philosophy and Law of Attraction.   As I made some changes from the first draft, I found an interesting  thing happen!   It took on a message for a collective mastery of self in all of us as it applies to our personal lives and interconnectedness to each other throughout the world.  We are all mirrors of each other, and what we think and do has an affect beyond our own spheres of experience.  May all of humanity become thoroughly embraced in God’s Love, as we behold our own, and each other’s divinity,  in God’s great Mirror in the Sky, yet living in our hearts.

Blessings, & Namaste  :)

Mirror in the Sky”  ~ Lyric rewrite by Rebecca J Steelman  5/23/2010

(Inspired from the melody of “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac)

In God’s Love,

There is You.

And in this Light,

I Am too.

~

Now We see Our reflection,

And there’s no lie;

We know Our Love is free to fly.

~

Oh, mirror in the sky, I see Love.

Yes, the child in my heart can rise above.

I can see all the beauty in this place.

And I can see Joy of Love in Your face.

Your face.

Chorus

Tho we’ve been down, now we change our life,

Our mind’s made strong and new.

And time’s made us bolder;

Just like children grow older, we are growing too.

Yeah, we are growing too.

~<Brief Instrumental solo>~

Oh Mirror in the Sky, There is Love.

And the Light that we share, is like a dove.

Energy of Essence fills all space.

And We greet every season in God’s Grace.

In Grace.

~<repeat Chorus>~

Ohh, in God’s Love,

There is You.

Ohh, and in this Light

I Am too.

~

For now we see Our reflection,

There’s no lie;

Now Our Love is free to fly.

Yeah now we see Our reflection,

 Our Love is Right… !!

. . . In the Mirror in the Sky . . .  Ohh, Mirror in the Sky

Finished Portrait Painting – Charles & Katie

May 14th, 2010

Hi and welcome!   Here is the finished portait done in acrylic on canvas of Renee’s father and mother Charles and Katie.  The size is 20″ x 24″.   Acrylic paint is fast-drying, and has a crisp, vivid clarity of color values – fine qualities that gives me the opportunity to build up paint layers quickly while reaching the desired hue, light and shadow, and realism.   When my clients approach with a commission, I’ve found that all of them do because they want the realism and color sharpness in their portraits that they have seen in my style from other finished examples.

Love the Challenge! *Charles and Katie Portrait Painting in Progress*

April 27th, 2010

What would us artist’s do if we didn’t have a bit of a challenge now and then? Wouldn’t it get awful boring for us if every drawing, every painting, and all of our commissioned art pieces, were always an easy endeavor? Of course, there is much artistic use of talent to be appreciated in easy commissions, and certainly even these can be stepped up a notch or two in different creative ways to make them more interesting and challenging if desired.  But unique circumstances of the work involved, and special wishes of our client, helps to keep us growing all the more. When we rise to the meet the challenge with a positive attitude, and are able to pull it off effectively, it shows too that we are alive and well as artists. Challenges like this serve to grow us in our artistic talent, and encourages the creative juices to flow in ever increasing supply. Speaking for myself, minding the needs of those who approach me for a painting or drawing of a loved one, is my pleasure and joy as an artist!   To me, it’s very important to make the piece ‘work’ for paying clients, so they will be excited and touched, and very satisfied with how the portrait turns out.  After all, my clients are paying good money for this artwork to be done for them, and it will be a sacred heirloom for years to come. What an exciting and fulfilling way to be creative and touch the hearts of others!

~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~
Meet Charles in this OLD, DARK photo !  This was the only photo my client could find of him, since he was always a man who was camera shy.  I told her I’d do my best, using her suggestion that his eyes resembled her and her sons’, so I could use theirs to help me out.  I see great love and light in this man, one who always provided for his family.
So here we are, I saw  the need to scan and adjust the old photo of Charles in photo shop as best I could before I could do any drawing of him. The most important part of a person is the eyes and features of the face.  If I couldn’t see his eyes and face, there would be no way in getting any good likeness of Charles – the father of my friend. Of course what I still needed to be clear on, I just asked Renee, my client who is having me do the portrait painting.
Meet Katie, the mother of Renee, in this old photo taken many years ago in the kitchen of their church after services, standing with her beloved family.  I find her as a very intriguing spirit.  Her eyes are so expressive of love, joy, and wisdom of experience in her life.  I wish I had a chance to meet her and Charles both while they were alive.  They have  made their transition, as my own mother and father have, yet I feel there is still infinity in their presence.
The original photo below of the woman standing at the grand piano is my church friend, and commissioning client, Renee, with her son. She requested that I use their positions and setting here, and transpose the faces, bodies, and clothing of father Charles and mother Katie. “No problem” I said, “I can do that if that’s how you want it.” I love this!  And actually, the transposing of them and details is not a hard challenge since I love drawing no matter what – just a fun challenge, which I’ve had experience doing before!
So here you see the photo of Renee and her son which she had me use for the setting, and the final drawing on canvas of Charles and Katie – the father and mother of Renee.  I’ve drawn them in their youthful appearance which she, like many clients, request,and is happy for me to successfully do for them.  And by the way, I added a bench seat in the drawing – the portrait really needed it to make the setting have common sense.  People have a hard time playing a piano without something to sit on!! : )
I have since then begun the painting of it, and it is coming along fabulously!
~~~~~~~~~~~+++~~~~~~~~~~

It is almost finished!  I have their faces to build up in more layers of paint for hue, light and shadow, and refinement of details.  I’ll be doing more to the drapes, the piano and bench seat, Charles’ attire, the palm plant, walls and ceiling, and of course their hands.  This is great fun!

Renee is so excited and will be very thrilled to have it adorn her home.

Drawing and painting their portrait gives me this wonderfully closer connection, and I hope that Renee and her family will feel it as well when they look at the painting too.

Namaste!  : )

“Wildflowers in Bloom” Series – 1st Drawing

January 28th, 2010

Fields of Lancaster 1

A colored-pencil drawing on paper.  The size is 11″ x 14″

This the first of a new series I’ve been inspired to begin in the midst of my many interests in artwork.  On a practical level,  here is simply an opportunity for me to be vibrant and alive with my love of colour and composition in this series, while exploring the rich variety of wildflowers naturally growing in the vast wilderness areas around the world.  Exploration in anything of the natural world is great fun!  I saw a picture in a book of national parks and preserved areas of California, but I drew this from my own imagination on the most part.  It started out with just an idea of where I wanted the wildflowers to be living in the space, not really having a set plan on where the hills, sky, fore and receeding grounds would develop on the page.  Drawing “Fields of Lancaster” has been a wonderful exercise in trust of the creative and artistic process.  Yes, Trust,  which actually on a personal level, is one of the most inspiring qualities demonstrated in relationships as well.  But there must be trustworthy character proven in order to earn and receive that trust.  This I have learned the hard way.  It should never be demanded just because it is ‘expected’ from the other.   This drawing I began in the presence of a man I dearly loved with every part of my being, but this relationship did not work out because trust was taken advantage of and broken.   So I have to admit that, as an artist this series, and all of my artistic and creative process, will continue to foster and nurture a steadfast Trust in the Universe as a whole, which lives in us all, and which helps us to ‘Bloom’ in awesome colors in all areas of our lives, especially self-actualization of our highest dreams.  I know the Universe to be All, whatever this Source is called, God with a name or with not.  It is from the same Energy which makes up the Universe, which is active in and through us, and in our behalf.  Lets us Trust in It, in our dreams, in ourselves and each other.

Timeless Moment ~ Thomas & Katie Portrait

ThomasandKatie

 Thomas And Katie – Acrylic on Canvas, 20” x 20”          When holding a child in our arms, are we adults not in awe of their amazing energy, timeless love, and innocence?  The Light which we feel as we connect with them in moments like this is absolutely beyond any other, for I believe that it is the resilient spirit of wonder and awe of our own inner child we are connecting with, as well as with that of the child we are with, in these moments.

     We know that the appreciation of Life itself is expressing the creativity, beauty and joy of living in the heart and mind of a child, and we are so very humbled, in these moments. These timeless moments.  Thomas explains that past and present are illusions, and that all things that happen in the past, present, or future, are truthfully, in the Now.  Thomas Hensel and his grandniece Katie are in Oneness that belongs to the Light.  It is an honour to have experienced this ‘timeless moment’ in the course of painting this portrait. — I am, humbly grateful.  And I look to explore Light shining from persons in all its various mystical, wondrous, and timeless brilliance, in portraits to come. ~~Namaste

Finished Portrait Painting of Jim Crump & Rev. Lee

October 3rd, 2009

     Here is the finished portrait of Jim Crump and Rev. Lee. It was a splendid joy to do this painting for these great friends.  Capturing the light of their faces – faces of God – and the deep spiritual strength of their union with each other and all in the universe was a profound experience indeed.  Church attendance has really grown since their leadership began a few years ago. They commissioned this painting by way of bidding on it in an annual fundraising event for the youth winter/summer camp scholarship fund to help parents in paying for the camp fees.   May their shining spirits live long in blessed prosperity. – Amen

This is an acrylic on canvas portrait of two wonderful people, a beautiful couple who are strong pillars of the church I attend in Riverside, CA, the Riverside Community Center for Spiritual Living. Reverend Lee is the senior minister and her husband Jim is a Science of Mind Practitioner.  What a challenge it was in painting her skirt jacket!  Now that I have that done I can move on to applying more paint to their faces, background, etc., and when completed, I will post it here and on my main website Portrait page.   :-)

The Path of the Heart

September 1st, 2009

  The above picture is a photo taken by my son last winter while at a church camp in Malibu, California.  The camp is situated along the mountains embracing the beautiful coastline.  One morning, being a talented photographer, he captured this lovely view of the brilliantly shining sun rising from the east, and the cloudy, foggy marine layer still hugging the rocky cliffs below.  This marine layer of course naturally comes inland every night, only then to be burned off and dissipated sometime in midday.  In the foreground, the walkway follows the curve of the ridge which is at an altitude above the clouds, affording the walker a nice opportunity to appreciate the gorgeous sight and energy of the morning sunrise. The steady trees seem to be reaching toward the light of the sun, their branches and leaves turning to its solar warmth and nourishment.

      The individual elements seen in the photo may be interpreted with individual symbolism.  For all intensive purposes, this is good for autonomous consideration of details.  But what would be the point of separating them and saying this element in the photo symbolizes the path of the heart, and that doesn’t symbolize it?  All of the elements in the picture are One.  They are in the same view, in the same frame of reference, picturing, in my perception, an amazing unity of the Path of the Heart.  For example, problems and trials we experience in life may seem like the cloudy marine layer that comes in the dark – times of gloom or trauma which seems to block Light of happiness. But is that not part of our learning and growing process when we go through pain of heart in trials?

     Thus it is not separate from the Path of the Heart. It is as much the Path as the sun, which seems to symbolize the Heart’s Path itself, shining so brightly above the fog and clouds, and rising as a transcendent center of emotional intelligence, warmth, and compassion for Life. The trees, that are extending their branches and turning their leaves to the sun, which seems to symbolize us in our earnest longing and heartfelt efforts to make our lives more fulfilling and happy, are just as much the Path of the Heart as the walkway hugging the ridge’s edge above the clouds, which seems to symbolize us in our higher Consciousness that always knows that the heart is already One with the shining sunrise, already One with Love, Awakening and Grace, with God Source living within – already.

     Let us remember that we are all in the Path of the Heart.  We are a PART of the Path of the Heart, and we ARE the Path of the Heart. Let all hearts BE and Rejoice in this knowing.   ~ Namaste <3
